Busting the Myth: Windows 11 Hardware Requirements
If you were to ask me to pinpoint the exact moment of IBM’s downfall and the great rise of Microsoft, it would be in the room in Armonk, New York where the IBM developers and the Microsoft developers were trying to create a new operating system for the new IBM-AT (based on the 16-bit 80286…

I Want My Money!
Every once is a while I do a quick Internet search of my name. If you’ve never done it, it can be fun and enlightening. And sometimes it can be maddening. To wit, I found this page about me today. Mitch Garvis Net Worth 2018: Wiki-Bio, Married, Dating, Family, Height, Age, Ethnicity (networthpost.org) Now let…

Welcome to Canada! Welcome to Second Rate Customer Service
I am not going to lie. It is good to be back in Canada. It was a stressful return, but most of it is now behind me, and I can relax. A couple of weeks ago a friend came to visit (and brought my Princess Sophie to me!). She has lived most (or all) of…

PowerShell From Afar
“Hey Mitch, I always hear you talk about running PowerShell against remote computers. How do I do that?” There are several different ways to do this, depending on what exactly you want to do. Preparation We cannot simply create a machine and start working on it remotely. We have to enable remote management by first…

Where’s my RSAT?
A close friend and former colleague recently gave me the nickname “Mr. No GUI.” Why? I am big believer in Windows Server Core. I do not believe there should be a GUI on a Windows Server unless it is being used as a desktop. That does not mean that we all have to become command…

When Are You Coming Home?
We have all heard the saying: “Home is where you hang your hat.” I have lived that way for my adult life. Since turning 21 I have lived in six places in Israel, four in Montreal, 3 in the Greater Toronto Area, two in Japan, two in Ottawa, and am now on my third apartment…

Lord Stanley’s Cup Goes Home
**Note to my readers: I love the city of Tampa. I love the people there, the culture, the scenery, the food, and of course the cigar scene. This piece says many unflattering things, and I want to be clear that none of these is intended as a slight to the beautiful city, but rather to…

Don’t Do It…
A few days ago, a former student emailed me the most unfortunate question. I have been an IT trainer for fifteen years. For much of that time, and with few exceptions, I have been giving out my personal contact information. I have always told my students that even though the class is over, I am…

Kucherov Proud to Cheat
I did my best to not call too much attention to the fact that Tampa was $18,000,000 over the salary cap for their Stanley Cup run. Kucherov is happy to call attention to it. Donning any-shirt that reads ‘$18M Over The Cap’ he poses with the Stanley Cup. I have said on Facebook what a…
